Postmark'd Art - Africa

I now have my post cards finished and ready to send off to the girls in round 17 with Postmark'd Art. This time my chosen theme was Africa.

I walked into one of our local quilt shops Quilts n Calicoes and spotted this fabric so bought it thinking that it could work in my postcards in some way. Once I got it home and looked closely into the fabric I loved the elephants coming out of the jungle so decided to use the fabric solely as the post card.
I then went about thread painting the postcard with free motion on my machine and this was the result.

Off to Arab St for Fabric

An overseas friend recently visited Singapore so one of our places to explore was Arab St which is famous for its fabric stores, all housed in original Singapore shop houses. Over the years some of the fabric stores have moved away but thankfully there are still plenty of lovely silk shops to explore.
Here is a selection of the shops that I shop in.

Poppy Fabric
111 Arab Street

A good selection of plain and patterned silk, mainly Dupion Silk.

Bobby Silk Palace
57A Arab St

Great for silk but make sure to find the stairs as this leads to their upstairs room which has an extensive selection of embroidered silk

Gim Joo Textiles
90 Arab St

This shop is an Aladdin's cave where I found linen and cotton voile all at good prices.

Mahaco Impex
51 Arab St
Shop here for Dupion Silk with a fabulous range of colours.

Do you have a favourite shop on Arab St?

Thanks for the visit.

Necklaces and Bags

This week has been 'finish what you start' as I have had 2 bags waiting to be finished for sometime.

The pattern I used for this bag was from the Moon Shine range. I created the fabric using the Chenille method which gives the bag a lovely soft texture.

The squares that make up this bag where constructed by hand. I then lost the pattern and you really need it to get these squares to turn into this bag! Thankfully Craftsy came to the rescue where I found a pattern and then managed to get it together.

In the last few weeks I have been using up beads from my stash to make some necklaces.

Thanks for the visit

My Venture into Postmark'd Art

Recently I joined a group called Postmark'd Art. This group consists of fibre artists that make post card sized art 4"x6". It is amazing what some of these ladies can fit on a post card this size. I decided that this group would be a good challenge to develop my skills. I found this challenge a lot harder than I thought but hopefully with practice it will get a little easier. We had themes to choose from so the one I chose was, Black and White.  As I live in Singapore and the Historic Black and White houses are very famous here and one of our quilting girls lives in Emerald Hill which has amazing restored historic homes so I decided to base my postcard around these houses. I now have completed and posted 5 cards that are flying off around the world.
